Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure (game, 2D platformer, science fiction, fantasy). Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure is a platform game in the style of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog games for the Sega Genesis.The game is heavily based on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992) for the Genesis, while also using concepts from Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (1994). Sonic 2's stage themes are featured throughout, but the stage layouts are unique to the game.

• Pressing start at the Sega screen brings up a debug menu.
• Contains two test maps for the action stages, and two test levels for the special stages.
• The debug menu contains different level names for various zones, but the zones themselves have the final names in their title cards.
• Some aspects of levels have collision problems (i.e the springs in Casino, and the rotating platforms in King Relics).
• The boss in Death Egg Act 2 doesn't spawn a capsule upon defeat.
• Some sound effects are missing from the prototype.

• The label seems to indicate the the label was used on a cart that might have contained a Rockman (ロックマン) game at one point.

• The ROM was obtained using the Tengu Neo Geo Pocket Dumper. Because there were quite a lot of errors in the process, the cartridge was dumped 16 times. 9 of the dumps were identical to the released ROM, 7 others had errors. The errors were in different places of the ROM, so it was possible to rule them out.

A demo version of Sonic Pocket Adventure for the Neo Geo Pocket Color.the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure for the SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color.

Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure: Trial (体験版) is an abridged version of the Neo Geo Pocket Color game Sonic Pocket Adventure. It is a playable one-Zone demo that was sent to stores to entice customers into buying the full version. This version barely differs from the final version of the game, with the exception being some Japanese language, and two teaser trailers that are not in the final version.

Before the Sega logo, there is some scrolling Japanese text that translates to 'Finally.. A supersonic action game.. on the Neo Geo Pocket'. After the Sega logo, there is a cutscene that introduces the main characters of the game: Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails. Lastly, a silhouette of Dr. Eggman appears, followed by more text promoting the game.

The first dump of the game had problems playing sound during the intro video. On November 6, 2009, a new dump of this ROM was released by NGP PROJECT. This dump appears to fix the sound problems in the opening cutscene. Comparing the two dumps reveals minor corruption in various locations of the earlier ROM.
